St. Johns County has grown by nearly 44% over the past decade, 2020 Census figures show. It’s the second-fastest growing county in Florida. County officials have encouraged growth and development, and have approved hundreds of Planned Unit Developments, PUDs by government jargon. A county website shows that 450 PUDs containing 134,391 housing units have been approved. Of those, 78,480 homes have been built.
